Child, Adolescent and Family Services (CAF)

PDMHC provides counseling and psychiatric services to families and to those children and adolescents who are experiencing emotional, relational, and/or behavioral problems. Our goal is to help children and their families reduce behavior and problems that may lead to interference or dissolution of the community/ home placement or the disruption in school attendance and performance. Family participation is encouraged and is felt to be an essential component of treatment and recovery. Our clinicians also work cooperatively with the schools and other involved community agencies as needed. Services may be provided at a center office, in the child’s school setting, and/or in the home. Specialized intensive treatment services may be offered if indicated.



Our CRISIS PROGRAM offers 24-hour emergency services for those individuals who are experiencing psychiatric crises. These services can be accessed after hours by calling your center’s phone number or 843-317-4073.


are family centered and community based programs that provide intensive mental health services within the home and community of identified at-risk families. The goal of these programs is to keep at-risk families together and decrease out of home placements.


is an evidenced based therapy designed to help people suffering from mood disorders as well as those who need to change patterns of behavior that are not helpful, such as self-harm or suicidal ideation. Patients in this program learn how to identify their emotional triggers and develop skills to utilize in coping and decreasing their harmful behaviors.


provides multiple community referrals and support for eligible patients who may be in need of medical, dental, housing, social, educational, and other community needs. A care coordinator can complete a comprehensive needs assessment and then work cooperatively with the client to provide a link to these resources. The care coordinator will monitor and provide follow up to help with the resolution of the needs.


These and other programs are available to patients depending on their individual needs and problems. When you first come to the center, your clinician will discuss with you how we can work with you to improve your situation. If there are other resources or providers that might better meet your needs, we will help you make contact with them.



At the beginning of treatment and at intervals throughout the course of treatment, your clinician will discuss with you and your family the reasons for seeking assistance and the changes you would like to see. The assessment will cover many areas of your life and background. Your clinician will work cooperatively with you and your family to develop your treatment plan and to choose the array of services that will be best suited to you


Counseling is provided by clinicians and can take place individually, with your family, or in a group setting, depending on your preferences and needs. Once you meet individually with your clinician to establish your needs and goals for treatment, counseling will be focused on helping you address these needs and meet your goals. Family counseling involves your family to help identify and resolve conflicts in the family environment as well as to educate and encourage support for your recovery. Depending on your individual goals, you may be asked to participate in a group with others who are coping with similar issues. Some groups are designed to target a specific problem, such as coping with depression. Other groups may focus more generally on issues, including improving social skills or helping you deal with emotions, such as anger or loneliness.


Medical Services can be provided by Physicians, Physician’s Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and/or Nurses. The doctor will review your health history and presenting needs and will talk with you to assess the nature and severity of your issue and to consider whether medication is indicated. If you are placed on medication, you will see the nurse or other medical staff periodically to monitor your response to the medication and to provide continued assessment and make any adjustments to the medication if needed. We have the capability if needed, via tele-psychiatry, to have a psychiatrist deliver a live evaluation from a remote location.


PDMHC has trained staff available 24 hours a day to assist with anyone who is experiencing a psychiatric crisis. This service may take place either face-to-face or over the phone with the intentions of helping to stabilize the situation, reduce your immediate personal distress, and to reduce the chance of future crises. You would be linked to other resources if they are needed to stabilize the situation.


Patients who need continued support to live in the community can receive services that are designed to learn and improve the skills needed to promote independence and increase self-esteem. Education about mental illness for the client is an important component of this service.
